RCIY
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Youth (RCIY) is a process that prepares youth and young adults to receive the sacraments of Christian initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist). We journey with youth between the ages of 13 to 23 who are keen to learn more about the Catholic faith and seeks to help them establish a relationship with God and become lifelong and joyful disciples of Jesus Christ.
The 1st batch of RCIY will begin sessions starting from 22nd September 2024 on Sundays from 9.15am to 11:15am at the Parish Pastoral Centre. Each week, we gather to pray, learn more about different tenets of the Catholic faith and share our lives. The community is made up of catechumens who are journeying towards Baptism on Easter 2025.
RCIC
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC) is meant for Children from age 7 to 12 who has yet to receive any Sacraments or formal Catechesis. RCIC aims to prepare these children to receive the Sacrament of Baptism, Reconciliation and First Holy Communion before releasing them to join their cohorts in their respective Levels in Parish Catechesis.
The next batch of RCIC will begin in 2025 on Saturdays from 2.30 to 4.00pm at the Parish Pastoral Centre.
Home Catechesis: A Community-Based Approach
Home Catechesis is a unique method of religious education where families gather together in a home setting to learn and grow in their faith. This community-oriented approach fosters a strong sense of belonging and support among the participants.
In Home Catechesis, parents and children from different families meet in one of the families’ homes for the catechetical sessions. The sessions are designed to be group-based, ensuring that the children are rooted in a community within the parish. Parents journey alongside their children during the sessions, helping to reinforce the teachings and learning together.
The catechetical sessions follow a syllabus and session plans provided by the Archdiocese Office for Catechesis (OFC). Newly joined parents typically observe the sessions for a period of time to familiarize themselves with the format. As they become more comfortable, they partner with other parents to facilitate and eventually present the sessions. Parents are encouraged to take up courses offered by OFC to enhance their catechetical skills.
The hosting of the sessions rotates among the participating families. This ensures that everyone has the opportunity to contribute and benefit from the experience. Light snacks and fellowship typically follow the catechetical sessions.
Home Catechesis provides a supportive and engaging environment for families to learn and grow together in their faith. It is a valuable opportunity to build community, strengthen relationships, and deepen one’s understanding of religious teachings.
If you are interested in finding more about Home Catechesis or would like to observe a catechetical session, you can contact Bernard Lee (h/p: 96940535) for more information.
As adults, we often feel that we want to teach our children about God and about our faith.
And yet, it has been discovered that the youngest of children already have an innate capacity to live in relationship with God.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is an approach, a way of being, that works with that innate ability of the young child to draw closer to God by himself. It is based solidly in liturgy and scripture whilst following the wisdom that Montessori passed down in “following the child”.
During the Sunday 9.30am mass, young children (aged 3 to 10) are invited to experience God’s love through the proclamation of the Gospel in LOWC sessions.
The Sunday’s Gospel is proclaimed to them in a manner where the children can understand the readings.
LOWC sessions commence with the Weekend Catechetical year and there are no sessions during the Singapore school holidays.
No registration is required to join our sessions, simply listen out for the lector’s invitation during mass to join the procession.

He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them,
for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
~Mark 10:13-14
Catechism can be defined as the essential teachings of the Catholic Church, providing a comprehensive summary of the knowledge and traditions behind Catholicism.
At Holy Family Church, we believe that Catechism is more than the imparting of knowledge. We trust that Catechism also offers our young ones a chance to come together in faith and deepen their relationships with the Holy Trinity.
Please view our references and resources below if you have enrolled or are thinking of enrolling your child in Catechism.
Please click here to register your interest in joining us as a volunteer and we shall get in touch with you soon on the next briefing session for new volunteers.
In the meantime, if you have any queries or require any clarification, please feel free to e-mail to us.
Thank You and God Bless!
